If I am selling my home before I buy another, should I go for a 72-hour release clause?

No. A 72-hour release clause could cause you to lose the home you are contracted to buy. Such a clause entitles the seller to continue marketing the property you want to buy while the clock ticks on the contingency to sell your current home first. If another buyer makes an offer, you would have only 72 hours to satisfy the contingency. You can always negotiate a longer period of time for a release clause.
